Pet peeves (sorry, it’s going to be a long list, I am easily annoyed):

– people who are rude to waiters/waitresses/cashiers
– people who cut lines (and retort when confronted!)
– children who let their grandparents carry their stuff
– children who wail in public
– parents who let their young children get away with everything
– drivers who don’t bother with turn signals
– people not saying thank you
– tall people in movie theaters sitting in front of me (sorry, tall people)
– women who use the bathroom for e-ter-ni-ty
– tangled straps/cords
– dropping things and then having to pick them up
– people who never smile with their teeth showing
– people who eat/drink other people’s stuff from a hostel fridge (!)
– beeping cellphones
– people who start looking for their wallets in their bags only after the cashier has bagged everything and already asking for payment (why can’t you take out your wallet to get ready when the cashier is ringing things up?!)
– restaurants that forget orders

I am fairly sure this is a non-exhaustive list of pet peeves – what are some of yours that you don’t see on this list?

Books, Randomly.

Ever since the new year began, weather’s been dreary. It is difficult to get out of bed and all I want is to snuggle and read a good book. The last one I read was Brooklyn by Colm Tóibín, who writes in the most gracefully manner. I’ll be bringing it back to the library tomorrow and hopefully come back with an equally lovely one. On a similar note, here is a list of recommendations by Samantha Shorey (of ashore) and her friends – I enjoy her blog immensely and High Fidelity by Nick Hornby is one my all-time favorites so, yes, I would give all those other four books a go.

Earlier this year, I emulated the popular August Break organized by Susannah Conway and posted two weeks worth of pictures-only posts in the name of the Lunar New Year Break. In consideration of the fact that the August Break is supposed to be one-month long, I’ve decided to join in the fun again this year to complete the remaining two weeks leftover from January, starting tomorrow. Happy August! :)

Shilin Official Residence Park / Part II.

I keep changing my mind about my favorite kind of film: in the beginning I was really into the pastel hues of ISO100 film but then I realized I use my cameras indoors so much that I had to start using higher speed film. For a while I enjoyed the true-to-life colors represented by Lomography CN 400 and Paradies Action 400 tremendously but then some pictures turned out too true-to-life that they don’t look too different from digital images at all.

These were taken on the same day as my funny, swirly ones on the Superheadz UWS at the park and I’m still not sure how I feel about them. One of my favorite things about film photography is that dreamy quality with which light and colors are captured in the most unpredictable way and that quality just seem to be missing in these. I’ve been working with lots of lower speed films (Fuji, Agfa and Ferrania Solaris), trying to figure out the best ways to utilize different films for the different moods I hope to capture. It has been mostly trial-and-error so far; I love that I never stop learning new things when it comes to film photography.
