Taiwan Sugar Museum in Redscale.

Negative0-10-7A(1)

Having loaded the Lomo LC-A+ with redscale film, I could only imagine what these pictures would look like as I snapped away at the Taiwan Sugar Museum (台灣糖業博物館). I wish I had a wider lens to capture the magnitude of the enormous machines in the refinery but I am so glad this was the film that was in my camera. Many of these would have been underexposed had I used normal color negative but instead they are beautiful silhouettes against a fiery orange.

Taiwan Sugar Museum.

Negative0-10-12(1)

The sugar museum (台灣糖業博物館) was definitely the highlight of our Kaohsiung trip for me – it used to be so inaccessible before the metro started service but now it’s just a short walk from MRT Ciaotou Sugar Refinery Station. The locals love to visit this old sugar refinery turned museum for a “rustic experience” but, really, it is so much more than that. We went on a quiet Thursday with almost no other visitors and standing inside the abandoned refinery, I was drowning in the silence of a prominent past that has faded so completely with time. I used the Lomo LC-A+ for the pictures I took inside the refinery on redscale film – some of which I’m really excited to share with you in the next post.

Pigeons.

Negative0-21-17A(1)

If you take the bus in the city along where the Kaohsiung Cultural Center (高雄市文化中心) is, you’ll see some fascinating art installations decorating the bus stops. We were on our way to a cafe when we passed by one of the said bus stops – beautiful pigeons atop. For a moment, they felt so real I was afraid they’d all be gone before I could take a picture. Well, I had time for two.
