One of the things we were very serious about while researching for our trip to Bali was looking for cute cafes to hang out in. We narrowed the list to two but only managed to visit Drop due to an unfortunate passport mishap the morning we were to visit the other one. Anyhow, I am glad we made to it to Drop – it is super adorable and the food/coffee gave us a great start to our third day in Bali.

We had such a lovely time at Penny University, an artisanal coffee house in the east of Singapore. The food and coffee were excellent but the thing I really wanted to bring home with me was the beautiful bowl they use as the water sink in the bathroom.

The BW in BW General Store (時常在這裡) stands for Between – I don’t have any explanation for it but that is it. It is really more of dessert house than a coffee house, with a very small number of seats and a dessert menu that changes almost everyday. A larger part of the space showcases handmade/zakka/antiques/vintage like many, many other cafes in Taiwan but I will go as far as to tell you that the selection, picked out by its two male owners, are interestingly different from most others.
On a side note, I am very happy with how these pictures turned out (in the same way these did) despite being taken in limited natural light. The beautiful contrast from brightness to darkness that is only visible on film never ceases to amaze me.

After a hot morning walk in Kampong Buangkok, we rested our feet (but not our cameras) at The Orange Thimble, a rather popular cafe in the area of Tiong Bahru.

Remember how I said that I don’t visit large, chain-store cafes in my last coffee shop post? Well, Zhanlu Coffee (湛盧咖啡) somehow falls into that category with four outlets in Taipei but in a coffee connoisseur kind of way – they roast they own beans, offer coffee workshops and make their own desserts everyday. The tiramisu (real tiramisu, you guys, with ladyfingers! I can’t stress enough how disturbing it is to serve a ladyfinger-less dessert you dare call tiramisu) is worth my time going back again and again.
